President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, religious tolerance, and unity as Christians across the country and around the world celebrate Christmas.
In his Christmas message on Wednesday, the President said the season goes beyond festivities, reminding Christians of the birth of Jesus Christ and his enduring message of love, grace, hope, and salvation as the Prince of Peace.
President Tinubu extended warm Christmas greetings to Christians in Nigeria and globally, expressing gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve as Nigeria’s leader.
He offered prayers for peace in the country, particularly among citizens of different religious beliefs.
Reaffirming his administration’s stance, the President said he remains committed to upholding religious freedom and protecting Nigerians of all faiths from violence and discrimination.
“As Nigerians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, we must also acknowledge the significant contributions Christians have made, and continue to make, to the nation’s progress,” he said.
The President noted that Christian values inspired by the Gospel have driven many believers to care for the vulnerable and less privileged, while promoting peace, harmony, and tolerance across communities. He commended individuals and groups who bring hope and faith in times of hardship, stressing that the Christmas season serves as a reminder that God remains present despite challenges.
Reflecting on his administration since assuming office in 2023, President Tinubu reiterated his commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s security, unity, and stability in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He emphasized that every Nigerian has the right to live, worship, and pursue their aspirations in safety and dignity, regardless of ethnicity or religious belief.
“No one should suffer for professing and practising his faith,” the President stated, adding that love for God and love for humanity are shared values across all major religions and should continue to bind Nigerians together.
President Tinubu also disclosed that he has engaged extensively with leaders of the country’s major faiths over the past year, particularly on issues of religious intolerance and insecurity. He said the government would build on these engagements to strengthen collaboration with religious institutions, prevent conflict, and promote peaceful coexistence.
As Nigerians travel during the holiday season to reunite with loved ones, the President urged motorists to exercise patience and discipline on the roads, wishing all travellers safe journeys and returns.
Expressing optimism about the future, President Tinubu said that with faith in God and collective national effort, Nigeria would continue on the path toward greatness for the benefit of future generations.
He concluded by wishing Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year ahead.
