Rasheedat Ajibade, captain of Nigeria’s Super Falcons and a player for Paris Saint-Germain, has shared a Christmas message emphasizing the religious significance of the season.
In a statement posted on social media on Thursday, Ajibade said Christmas goes beyond celebrations and material gifts, describing it as a time centered on Jesus Christ.
She said Christ “didn’t come for the festivities” but to offer redemption, adding that his life and sacrifice were meant to restore humanity’s relationship with God.
“Beyond the gifts and the noise, Christmas is simply about Jesus. He didn’t come for the festivities; He came for you. He traded a cradle for a cross to bring you home.”
Ajibade urged her followers not to focus on perfection but to begin a personal relationship with Christ, saying the message of Christmas is one of grace and invitation rather than performance.
The footballer, who is widely regarded as one of Africa’s top women’s players, has previously spoken openly about her faith alongside her professional career.
