Uganda’s Deputy Inspector General of Police, James Ocaya, has called on police officers to celebrate the Christmas season responsibly while remaining vigilant in the execution of their duties.
Ocaya made the remarks at Police Headquarters in Naguru, where he presided over the distribution of Christmas hampers to officers.
He emphasized that the responsibility of maintaining law and order must not be compromised by holiday festivities.
“Even as we celebrate, our core mandate of protecting life and property remains paramount,” Ocaya told officers, urging them to balance personal celebrations with professional obligations.
The Christmas hampers comprising cows and assorted foodstuffs are part of the Uganda Police Force’s annual welfare support. They are being distributed across police barracks within the Kampala Metropolitan Area to support officers and their families during the festive period.
Police leadership said the initiative is intended to boost morale among officers while reinforcing discipline and readiness during a time traditionally marked by increased public activity and security demands.
