The Nigerian House of Representatives has announced an institutional review of the legislative process surrounding four recently passed Acts, including the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 and the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act 2025.
Concerns have been raised publicly about differences between Bills passed by the Senate and the House, the documents sent for presidential assent, and the versions subsequently published in the Official Gazette.
In response, the House last week established a seven-member Ad Hoc Committee to examine the sequence of events, working alongside other parliamentary committees and the National Assemblyās management.
The review aims to identify any administrative lapses or irregularities, while ensuring full compliance with Nigeriaās Constitution, parliamentary rules, and established legislative practice.
Under the direction of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, the Clerk of the National Assembly has been instructed to re-gazette the Acts and issue certified copies of the versions passed by both chambers. Officials said this step is intended solely to authenticate and accurately reflect parliamentary decisions.
The House stressed that the review is strictly focused on procedural and administrative matters, and does not challenge the legislative authority of either chamber. It also noted that any corrective measures identified will be carried out in line with the law and parliamentary convention.
Members of the public were urged to allow the review to proceed without speculation. The House spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi, said further updates would be provided as necessary.
