Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resumed its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, ushering in the second phase of the process across the country.
The exercise recommenced on Monday following the completion of the first phase, which formally concluded on December 10, 2025. The commission had earlier opened online pre-registration on August 18, 2025, before rolling out physical registration at designated centres nationwide from August 25.
In a statement issued recently, INEC disclosed that nearly 9.9 million Nigerians initiated online pre-registration during the first phase of the exercise. Of that number, 2,572,054 registrations were fully completed nationwide as of November 28, 2025.
The completed registrations comprised 1,503,832 online submissions and 1,068,222 registrations carried out in person, according to figures released by the electoral body.
INEC said the interval between the two phases was devoted to statutory procedures mandated by law, including the public display of the voters’ register for claims and objections.
“In line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, the display of the register of voters for claims and objections took place from December 15 to 21, 2025, at local government offices where the CVR was conducted,” the commission said.
The electoral umpire urged eligible Nigerians to seize the opportunity presented by the resumption to register for the first time, transfer their voting locations, or update personal details. It also advised those who had previously registered to verify their information and report any discrepancies.
However, INEC noted that CVR activities remain suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory due to ongoing electoral engagements. It said fresh dates for resumption in both areas would be announced in due course.
