Police in Lagos State have invited a prominent church leader, Pastor Chris Okafor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, to appear for questioning over allegations including multiple rape, other sexual offences and behaviour capable of breaching public peace.
The Lagos State Police Command said Pastor Okafor has been asked to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti at 10:00am on Monday.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Abimbola Adebisi, the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed that a full investigation has been ordered into what were described as “several serious criminal allegations” against the cleric.
According to police, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID has been directed to lead a thorough inquiry. The pastor has reportedly been served with a formal invitation through his legal representative and is expected to cooperate fully with investigators.
Police said measures have also been put in place to provide immediate security and protection for alleged victims, who are being encouraged to come forward to assist the investigation. Officers stressed that the identities of complainants would be kept strictly confidential.
The command further appealed to members of the public who may have credible information or evidence relating to the case to contact the SCID directly or reach out through the police public relations department, assuring them of protection from intimidation or reprisals.
In its statement, the Lagos State Police Command emphasised its commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring that all allegations are investigated impartially, regardless of the status of those involved.
The police noted that the investigation remains ongoing and that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the law.
