Electricity distribution companies in Nigeria installed 228,614 meters in the third quarter of 2025, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
In its Q3 report published on its website on Tuesday in Abuja, the regulator said the figure represents a 0.73% increase compared with the 226,959 meters installed in the second quarter of the year.
NERC said the bulk of the installations were carried out under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) framework, which accounted for 176,302 meters, or 77.12% of the total installed during the period.
The report added that 44,104 meters, representing 25.01%, were installed through the Vendor Financed framework, while 7,902 meters (3.46%) were deployed under the Distribution Sector Recovery Programme.
Smaller numbers were recorded under other schemes, with 175 meters (0.08%) installed through the Meter Acquisition Fund and 131 meters (0.06%) under the DisCo Financed framework.
To protect electricity consumers who are yet to be metered, the commission said it has continued to enforce monthly energy caps across all feeders operated by distribution companies.
According to NERC, the caps set the maximum energy chargeable to unmetered customers each month, based on the total energy received by a DisCo and the actual consumption of metered customers on the same feeders.
