A coalition of leaders within Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to remove the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of anti-party conduct and insubordination.
The group, operating under the APC Leaders Forum (ALF) and the Tinubu/Shettima Solidarity Movement (TSSM), made the demand in an open letter dated 7 January 2026 and addressed to the president through the party’s national chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
The letter was unveiled on Wednesday during a peaceful protest at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
The signatories — Dr Emeka Okoro, Dr Adekunle Balogun, Ibrahim Yusuf and Abdulkareem Isiaka said their action was aimed at safeguarding party unity and protecting President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
In the letter, the coalition alleged that Mr Wike’s conduct was incompatible with his role in an APC-led government, claiming he is not a registered member of the party and has repeatedly made public statements critical of its leadership.
They cited comments allegedly made by the minister in Rivers State, in which he was accused of attacking the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, over alleged interference in state politics.
The group also accused Mr Wike of working against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, describing the alleged actions as political sabotage capable of weakening the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the coalition, some of the minister’s remarks amounted to a challenge to presidential authority and posed potential risks to party stability and national cohesion.
They warned that retaining Mr Wike in the cabinet could deepen internal divisions within the APC.
Despite the criticism, the group reaffirmed its support for President Tinubu and announced plans to escalate protests to other parts of the country if their demands are not addressed.
Mr Wike has not publicly responded to the allegations.
