Thirty-eight students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, who were arrested following a recent protest in the town, are expected to be released shortly, according to officials.
The update was confirmed in a statement signed by Hon. Comrade Asefon Sunday Dayo, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement.
The development follows high-level interventions by the Edo State Government and federal authorities.
Those involved include the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, alongside the Edo State Commissioner for Education, student leaders and members of the wider comrade community.
Sources say the discussions focused on dialogue, due process and de-escalation, paving the way for a peaceful resolution of the situation.
Stakeholders have welcomed the outcome, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to students’ welfare and constructive engagement rather than confrontation.
