Lagos State government have been urged to strengthen enforcement of environmental laws after a man was filmed urinating on the Jubilee Bridge in Abule Egba, a busy area of the city.
The man, whose identity remains unknown, was captured in a video that has since circulated widely on social media. In the footage, he is heard boasting that no one would arrest him for his actions.
The incident has renewed concerns about the misuse and degradation of public infrastructure in Lagos.
A social media user identified as Onifoto who filmed the culprit called on the Lagos State Government and the Ministry of the Environment to take decisive action against individuals damaging public spaces.
He urged authorities to deploy surveillance systems and environmental enforcement officers around the bridge to deter such behaviour.
“We need your officers around the Abule Egba Bridge to arrest people like this and those who dump refuse by the bridge,” he said.
The call comes amid growing complaints from residents over worsening waste management across parts of the state. Many have reported piles of uncollected refuse along major roads, raising fears of possible disease outbreaks.
Environmental experts warn that poor sanitation and the misuse of public spaces not only undermine urban infrastructure but also pose serious public health risks, particularly during the rainy season.
