The United States Embassy in Accra has opened thousands of additional appointment slots for non-immigrant visas, with many available for immediate booking, as preparations intensify ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement posted on X on Tuesday, the embassy said it continues to process non-immigrant visa applications and encouraged prospective travellers to apply early, especially those planning trips connected to the global football tournament.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, a development that has driven increased interest in US travel across Africa.

The embassy advised applicants who do not currently hold a valid US visa not to delay their applications, warning that demand is expected to rise as the tournament approaches.

Applicants were also reminded to submit their visa requests only through the official US visa appointment website to avoid fraud and misinformation.

LAGOS EYE NEWS reports that the US Embassy in Ghana recently opened more than 1,000 visa interview slots specifically for applicants intending to travel for the FIFA World Cup, offering a timely opportunity for football fans planning international trips.

Ghana’s Black Stars have officially qualified for the 2026 World Cup, boosting travel interest among Ghanaian supporters. Nigeria, despite its population of over 200 million, failed to qualify for the upcoming global football tournament.
