Residents across several parts of Lagos are set to experience a temporary disruption in water supply as repair works are carried out at the Adiyan I Water Treatment Plant.
The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) said the interruption will affect areas including Akiode, Ikeja, Magodo, Oregun, Ketu, Ojota, Maryland, Aromire, Ogudu, Gbagada, Shomolu, Ojuelegba, Oyingbo, Ijora Olopa, Agege and parts of Lagos Island.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Corporation explained that the shutdown is necessary to allow for critical repair and replacement work on the ND1600mm raw water pipeline at the Akute Intake Station.
According to LWC, a persistent leak on the pipeline has been hampering construction work on the Adiyan Phase II project.
The statement noted that continuous water discharge from the damaged section has saturated the surrounding ground, undermining soil stability and creating safety risks for heavy construction equipment, including cranes and excavators, currently operating at the site.
As a result, the Adiyan I Water Treatment Plant will be taken offline temporarily to ensure the safe completion of the repair works and the ongoing Adiyan II intake construction.
The Corporation said work is being fast-tracked and assured residents that water supply will be restored as soon as the repairs are completed.
