The Lagos State House of Assembly has denied reports that it made provisions to purchase houses for lawmakers in Abuja under the 2026 Appropriation Law, describing the claim as false and misleading.
In a joint statement, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Stephen Ogundipe, and the Chairman of the Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, Sa’ad Olumoh, said no such allocation exists in the 2026 budget.
They said the Assembly does not operate from Abuja and carries out all its legislative activities within Lagos State, adding that the report was a fabrication driven by political motives.
“The Lagos State House of Assembly does not have any operational basis in Abuja, and there is no budgetary provision for the purchase of houses for lawmakers outside the state,” the statement said.
The Assembly also noted that its capital expenditure for 2026 accounts for less than 0.04% of the state’s total capital spending, which it said reflects its commitment to fiscal discipline, accountability and prudent use of public funds.
Lawmakers described the allegation as election-season propaganda aimed at undermining public confidence in democratic institutions.
They challenged those behind the claim to provide credible evidence or withdraw the report, warning that failure to do so could result in legal action.
The Assembly urged residents of Lagos State to disregard what it called misinformation and to rely on official sources for accurate information.
