The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned Salihu Yusuf Wavah before Justice Muhammad Maina of the Borno State High Court.

Wavah faces a two-count charge of criminal misappropriation involving N20 million.

According to the charge, the defendant allegedly diverted the funds, meant for a property purchase, into his personal account between June 9 and June 11, 2024.

When the charges were read, Wavah pleaded “not guilty.”

Prosecution counsel Faruqu Muhammad requested a trial date and that Wavah be remanded in custody.

Justice Maina adjourned the case until February 9, 2026, and ordered that Wavah remain in prison pending trial.

The EFCC said Wavah neither delivered the property to the complainant nor refunded the money.
