The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of one Deputy Inspector-General of Police, two Assistant Inspectors-General and more than 26,000 inspectors across the Nigeria Police Force.
The decisions were taken at the Commission’s third plenary meeting, held on Thursday.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police Funsho Adegboye has been elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG). Two Commissioners of Police, Danjuma Aboki and Dansabo Idi, were also promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).
The promotions were ratified under the leadership of the PSC chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu, following what the Commission described as a rigorous, merit-based process that included written examinations and oral interviews.
In what the PSC termed a landmark decision, the Commission also approved the promotion of 26,119 inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II). The officers were successful in the recently concluded Departmental Selection Board Examination.
Before his promotion, DIG Funsho Adegboye served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Police Mobile Force at Force Headquarters in Abuja. Over a career spanning several decades, he has worked in operations, training and administration, and held command positions in several states. He has also served on United Nations peacekeeping missions in Kosovo, Liberia, Timor and Somalia.
AIG Danjuma Aboki was previously the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Imo State Police Command.
AIG Dansabo Idi, prior to his promotion, served as the Acting Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Research and Planning at Force Headquarters, Abuja. He has held various operational and administrative roles across the country, including Area Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Lagos, Commandant of the Police College in Kaduna, and Commissioner of Police at Force Headquarters.
Congratulating the newly promoted officers, the PSC chairman said the Commission remained committed to transparency and meritocracy in all appointments and promotions.
“These promotions are a recognition of hard work, dedication and competence,” Mr Argungu said, urging the officers to see their new ranks as a call to greater responsibility and service to national security.
He also commended members of the PSC Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force matters for overseeing what he described as a thorough examination and interview process.
The Police Service Commission said it would continue to focus on its mandate of strengthening human resource management within the police to promote professionalism and efficiency.
