Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have urged the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to postpone a planned protest in Abuja, citing intelligence warnings of possible security threats.
In a statement signed by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh on Monday, the Command said it was aware of a peaceful protest scheduled for Tuesday, 3 February 2026, by the NLC’s FCT Council.
While reaffirming its respect for the constitutional right to peaceful assembly, the police said intelligence reports suggested that proscribed groups and other non-state actors were planning to infiltrate and hijack the demonstration.
According to the command, such actions could pose serious risks to public safety, potentially leading to a breakdown of law and order within the nation’s capital.
The police therefore advised the organisers to consider rescheduling the protest in the interest of protecting lives and property, as well as safeguarding the rights of other residents of the FCT.
The statement added that the command remained committed to securing all lawful activities and called on residents to continue cooperating with security agencies to maintain peace and security in Abuja.
