The Saudi Pro League says its clubs operate independently and make their own recruitment and financial decisions, amid continued scrutiny of the competition’s transfer activity.
In an official statement, league officials stressed that each club has its own leadership structure, including boards, executives and football directors, who are responsible for shaping their respective sporting strategies.
They added that all clubs function under the same financial framework, designed to ensure sustainability and maintain competitive balance across the league.
The statement also addressed the role of Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr in December 2022 and has since become one of the league’s most high-profile figures. League officials said the Portugal forward has played an important role in Al-Nassr’s development and shares the ambition to compete for major honours.
However, the league emphasised that no individual player can influence decisions beyond their own club.
It said recent transfer activity reflected the independence of clubs, with teams strengthening their squads in different ways according to their own priorities and within agreed financial regulations.
The Saudi Pro League has attracted several leading players from Europe in recent years, as part of a wider effort to increase the competition’s global profile.
