Concerns raised over appointments in Gombe APC City Boy Movement |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Recent appointments within the Gombe State chapter of the City Boy Movement, an organisation aligned with Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), have sparked concern among some party supporters and stakeholders, amid questions about transparency and internal cohesion.

In an official announcement, the Movement named several individuals to key leadership positions. Mr Auwal Ibrahim was appointed Coordinator, while Mubarak Mijinyawa was named State Secretary. Hon Alhaji A. Ahmadu was appointed Gombe North Zonal Coordinator, and Hon Aishatu Abubakar Hashidu became State Treasurer.

Other appointments include Hon Naomi J. J. Awak as State Women Coordinator, Mr Adamu Babale Makera as State Youth Coordinator, and Mr Aliyu Baba Usman as Senior Special Assistant for General Duties. Mr Zubairu Sani and Mr Lukman Hassan were both appointed as Senior Special Assistants on Media, while Mr Musa Galadima was also named Coordinator.

Abbas Hussaini Sukola was appointed Financial Secretary, and Mr Abdullahi Adamu Misilli became Assistant Secretary.

While such appointments are typically seen as part of efforts to strengthen party structures, some APC members in Gombe have expressed reservations about the process and timing of the selections. They argue that leadership roles within party-affiliated movements should be given to individuals whose loyalty and commitment to the APC are clearly established.

There are also concerns about the inclusion of some appointees whose integration into the party structure is said to be unclear.

Critics warn that this could discourage long-serving members and potentially create divisions within the Movement.

Political observers note that internal unity and trust are often critical to the effectiveness of political organisations, particularly as parties prepare for future electoral contests. Appointments perceived as lacking broad consultation can sometimes deepen factional tensions.

Those raising concerns have called on the Movement’s leadership to ensure that future decisions are guided by transparency, due process, and party principles. They say such measures are necessary to preserve confidence among members and maintain the credibility of the APC’s support structures in Gombe State.

The leadership of the City Boy Movement has not publicly responded to the concerns.
