Kogi shuts markets and motor parks amid security operations |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Kogi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of markets and motor parks in six local government areas in the Kogi West Senatorial District as part of ongoing security operations.

The affected areas include Lokoja, Kabba-Bunu, Yagba West, Yagba East, Kogi and Mopamuro.

State authorities say the measure is aimed at supporting intensified operations targeting armed groups and other criminal elements in the region.

In a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, said the operations were being carried out in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser and security agencies.

He said the temporary closures were intended to disrupt supply chains and restrict the movement of goods and people that could aid criminal activity.

“The objective is to flush out terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements, and deny them access to logistics and support,” Mr Fanwo said.

The government said the decision followed consultations with security agencies and local authorities, and described the measure as temporary.

Officials said markets and motor parks would reopen once the operations had been successfully concluded.

The government acknowledged the impact the closures would have on residents and traders, but said the action was necessary to restore peace and minimise risks to civilians.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed the State Security Adviser to work with security agencies to enforce the directive.

Local government chairmen have also been instructed to monitor compliance and provide regular reports, while the Ministry of Information and Communications has been asked to intensify public awareness efforts.

The government appealed to residents for understanding and cooperation, saying the measures were being implemented in the interest of public safety.
