The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a man suspected of detonating an improvised explosive device (IED) at the State Secretariat Complex in Yenagoa on Wednesday.
The Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Daniel Edebor, led a swift response to the incident, directing the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, the Special Drone Unit, and other tactical teams to the scene.
Police said the EOD operatives quickly contained the explosion and cordoned off the area. During a detailed search, they discovered and safely neutralised another unexploded IED. No casualties or property damage were reported.
The suspect, identified as Pentecost Elijah, 60, from Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, was arrested at the scene and is currently undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department. Authorities say he will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer Musa Mohammed said in a statement that the situation is under control and normalcy has been restored. Members of the public were urged to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities.
