Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect, directing all commissioners, special advisers, and other political appointees to hand over their responsibilities to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior career officers in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.
The directive, which takes immediate effect, marks a major administrative development in the state’s governance structure.
LAGOS EYE NEWS reports that the affected officials have been instructed to ensure a smooth transition by transferring official documents, authority, and ongoing assignments to designated civil service heads.
Government sources say the move is part of efforts by the governor to reposition his administration, streamline government operations, and strengthen institutional efficiency within the civil service.
The dissolution is also seen as a step toward restructuring the executive arm in line with evolving political and administrative priorities.
The development follows a series of high-level political engagements involving Governor Fubara, former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Observers suggest the dissolution may be connected to agreements reached during these meetings, potentially paving the way for a reconstituted cabinet reflecting emerging political alignments.
Political analysts note that the prolonged political tensions between Fubara and Wike, which began shortly after Fubara assumed office in 2023, led to significant divisions within the state’s political landscape, including legislative defections, court disputes, and judicial rulings that affected governance arrangements.
While the government has not officially announced new appointments, expectations are high that a new executive council will be constituted in the coming weeks as part of broader reconciliation efforts and administrative restructuring in the state.
