The Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University (LASU), Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has formally approved the appointment of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, as the sixth Chancellor of the University.
The announcement was signed on Sunday by Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu, Registrar and Secretary to Council.
According to him, the appointment succeeds the completion of tenure of Gbolahan Elias, SAN, who served as the fifth Chancellor.
The Government of Lagos State and the University community have placed on record their appreciation for his distinguished service and the decorum with which he discharged the ceremonial and ambassadorial responsibilities of the office.
According to an official statement issued by the University Registry, the appointment was made in accordance with the provisions of the Lagos State University Law 2004 (as amended), Chapter L69, Volume 7, Schedule 1, which vests in the Visitor the authority to appoint the Chancellor.
Oba Ogunsanwo’s tenure is for a single term of five years, commencing on 13 February 2026, and is subject to renewal for one further term in line with statutory provisions.
In a joint message, the Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor extended their congratulations to the new Chancellor, expressing confidence that his stewardship will further strengthen the University’s strategic vision and institutional advancement.
