The Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Princess Surah O. Animashaun, has pledged continued support for federal security agencies to strengthen community safety and internal security in the area.
She gave the assurance while receiving the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos State Command, Comptroller Olofinbiyi Christopher, during a courtesy visit to the council secretariat in Epe.
Mrs Animashaun said her administration was ready to deepen collaboration with the immigration authorities, including the provision of office accommodation and support for grassroots sensitisation programmes aimed at promoting security awareness.
She commended the comptroller’s leadership and described the immigration service as playing a vital role in safeguarding the division.
The council chairman said cooperation between local authorities and federal security agencies was crucial in addressing emerging security challenges and ensuring residents lived in a safe environment.
In his remarks, Mr Olofinbiyi called for closer ties between the immigration service and the local government to strengthen enforcement of immigration laws, improve internal security operations and enhance the management of travel documents and residence permits.
He said sustained surveillance by the Lagos State Command had reduced cases of illegal immigration in the area, but appealed for additional support, including office space, accommodation, patrol vehicles and other operational logistics.
The comptroller was accompanied by senior officers, including the deputy comptroller in charge of ECOWAS and African Affairs, B.K. Danja, and the command’s public relations officer.
The meeting was also attended by principal officials of the local government, among them the leader of the legislative arm, Taofeek Araba; the council manager, Mrs Sofoluwe; the majority leader, Oluwo Rasheed; and the chief of staff to the chairman, Tunde Fuad Odupe.
