The management of Kaduna Polytechnic has launched an investigation following a viral video showing students allegedly prevented from attending lectures by members of the institution’s Dress Code Committee.
In a statement released on Thursday, signed by Godwin B. Ayegba, Deputy Registrar, Information and Protocol, on behalf of the management said it had taken note of the video circulating on social media, which captured an incident involving students of the College of Business and Management Studies (CBMS).
According to the institution, the clothing worn by the affected students, as seen in the footage, appeared “moderate and appropriate,” adding that the students should not have been barred from attending their lectures on that basis.
The management explained that the institution maintains a dress code policy designed to promote decency, professionalism, and a conducive learning environment for both students and staff. The Dress Code Committee, it noted, is mandated to enforce the policy in line with the polytechnic’s established rules and regulations.
However, the management stressed that enforcement must remain within the limits of the approved policy and should not be carried out in an extreme or arbitrary manner.
“The Management has immediately initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident to ascertain the facts and determine any lapses in the application of the policy,” the statement said.
It added that appropriate measures would be taken to resolve the matter swiftly and fairly, while also ensuring that similar incidents do not occur in the future.
Meanwhile, the institution reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the dress code policy while ensuring that students’ access to education is not unjustly hindered. Students were also advised to adhere strictly to the institution’s dress guidelines.
The management further urged students with complaints or concerns to channel them through official communication channels rather than resorting to social media platforms.
