The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has described former Osun State Governor and ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, as a betrayer of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Obasa made the remark on Saturday during an interfaith prayer session held in Ikeja to mark Tinubu’s 74th birthday. The event was organised by the Mandate Movement (TMM).
Speaking at the gathering, Obasa said, “We also had a great betrayer, a very great betrayer who ate, fed, and lived with us. At the end of the day, he crossed the border.”
He also issued a warning to party loyalists, saying, “Whenever you see someone wearing clothes without pockets, run away.”
The Speaker emphasised the need for continuity of Tinubu’s administration beyond 2027, stating that it is essential for consolidating the gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda. He noted that the President’s achievements position him strongly for a second term.
According to Obasa, the prayer session was held not only for Tinubu’s health, wisdom and longevity, but also for Nigeria’s peace, unity, security and development.
Describing the President as a pragmatic and visionary leader, Obasa said ongoing policies and reforms are already reshaping Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape. He highlighted key initiatives such as the removal of fuel subsidy, which he said has boosted state revenues, and the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFund), which he described as a “game-changer” for access to higher education.
He also cited the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a major infrastructure project capable of driving economic growth and tourism.
Obasa further commended the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her Renewed Hope Initiative, noting its impact through food distribution, agricultural support, women empowerment programmes and digital learning centres.
He called on Nigerians to support and re-elect President Tinubu, along with candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the 2027 general elections.
In his remarks, former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, praised Tinubu’s leadership and urged Nigerians to support his re-election bid.
“President Tinubu’s commitment to Nigeria’s progress is commendable, and it is our collective duty to support him so that the nation can fully reap the benefits of his reforms,” Ambode said.
Also speaking, the Chief of Staff to Lagos State Governor, Tayo Ayinde, lauded Tinubu’s efforts in repositioning the economy and called for continued support for the administration beyond 2027.
The event was attended by political leaders, party faithful, community leaders, and religious clerics from across Lagos State.
