COURT SENTENCES HALIMA UMAR ARMS COURIER TO TWENTY YEARS IMPRISONMENT|LAGOS EYE NEWS

A federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Yilewa Joseph has sentenced Halima Haliru Umar, charged with illegal arms courier to bandit networks to 20 years imprisonment.

The convict was arrested by the Department of State Service DSS in 2025 in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State with 302 rounds of AK 47 ammunition and 57,000 Naira.

Upon arraignment, the convict pledged guilty to count 3 and 4 which bordered on terrorism and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Justice Yilewa in his judgement noted that the convict has admitted to the facts presented by the prosecution without presenting any evidence in her defense and consequently convicted and sentenced her to 20 years imprisonment on count 3 and 4.

This was after the defense counsel Hamzat Dantani had pleaded to the Court to be lenient to the convict for not wasting the time of the Court.

The Court adjourned to July 9, 2026 for the prosecution to commence trial in respect of Count one and two to which she pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution is part of disrupting illegal arms supply lines and dismantling bandits and terrorists networks across Nigeria.
