The Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has recorded another breakthrough in its efforts to protect public infrastructure and curb criminal activities, following the conviction of two men for stealing construction materials from a federal road project along the Ilesa-Ibadan Expressway.
The convicts, identified as Damilare Oladunjoye and Azeez Ibironke, were sentenced to one year imprisonment by Magistrate Adedokun Ayeni of Magistrate Court II, Ilesa Division, after being found guilty of stealing iron rods belonging to an ongoing road construction project on the Ibadan-Ilesa Expressway.
According to the Osun Amotekun Corps, the suspects were arrested during a routine midnight patrol conducted by operatives on June 1, 2026. The patrol team reportedly intercepted the duo while they were transporting stolen iron rods concealed in a sack on a motorcycle along the Ilesa-Ibadan Expressway.
The suspects allegedly attempted to flee upon sighting the Amotekun patrol vehicle but were chased and apprehended by the operatives.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both men confessed to stealing the iron rods from the construction site. They also admitted to having previously stolen similar materials from the same project.
In their confessional statements, the suspects disclosed that they had sold stolen iron rods from earlier operations to a scrap dealer for ₦35,000 per transaction, with the proceeds shared between them.
Following the completion of investigations, the Osun Amotekun Corps, through its Legal Adviser, Barrister Oyedele Akintayo, arraigned the suspects before Magistrate Court II, Ilesa Division, on June 2, 2026, on a three-count charge bordering on stealing.
After reviewing the case, the court found the defendants guilty and sentenced them to one year imprisonment each, with the sentences to run concurrently.
Reacting to the judgment, the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, commended the vigilance and professionalism of the operatives involved in the arrest.
He noted that the recovered iron rods were part of materials designated for a major federal government road construction project and were worth several millions of naira.
Omoyele said the successful arrest and prosecution underscored the agency’s commitment to protecting government assets and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.
“The conviction of these offenders sends a strong message that criminal activities, particularly the theft and vandalism of public infrastructure, will not be tolerated in Osun State. We remain committed to working tirelessly to protect lives, property and government investments across the state,” he said.
The Corps Commander also commended the judiciary for the swift handling of the case and the sentence imposed on the offenders.
The Osun Amotekun Corps further urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to combat crime and maintain peace and order across the state.
