Redeemer’s University has achieved a major milestone in its academic development following approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) programme, alongside several other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The approval marks a significant expansion of the university’s academic offerings and strengthens its position within Nigeria’s higher education sector.
Redeemer’s University noted that it has spent more than 12 years contributing to global public health research, particularly in the genomics of infectious diseases. The institution has also received recognition and endorsements from international health organisations, including the World Health Organisation (WHO), Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC), and JWARG.
The NUC granted the approval after conducting a resource verification exercise at the university.
In a letter dated June 17, 2026, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, and signed by the Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, the commission approved the programmes in full-time mode with effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The newly approved undergraduate programmes are:
- MBBS Medicine and Surgery
- DBS Dental Surgery
- Pharm D. Doctor of Pharmacy
- B.Sc. Pharmacology and Therapeutics
- DPT Doctor of Physiotherapy
- B.Eng. Mechatronic Engineering
The approved postgraduate programmes include:
- PGD, MSc, MPhil and PhD in Architecture
- PGD, MSc, MPhil and PhD in Human Physiology
- PGD, MSc, MPhil and PhD in Physiotherapy
- MSc, MPhil and PhD in Human Anatomy
Reacting to the development, Vice-Chancellor Professor Akindele expressed gratitude to God and acknowledged the support of key stakeholders.
“First and foremost, all the glory goes to God for making this possible. We want to thank the Visitor to the University, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, for his constant support throughout this journey,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor also appreciated the university’s proprietors, Board of Trustees, Governing Council members, staff, parents and students for their contributions toward achieving the milestone.
According to him, the approval represents another step in the institution’s long-term vision of academic excellence.
“This is certainly not our final destination. We have set our sights on becoming the foremost training institution in Nigeria, not only in medicine but also across all faculties at Redeemer’s University. When it comes to quality education with godly character, parents will have every reason to choose Redeemer’s University,” Akindele added.
