The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank conferred on prominent lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, pending the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings against him.
In a statement, the committee said the decision was taken pursuant to Paragraph 26(6) of the Guidelines for the Conferment of the Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria and all matters relating to the prestigious title.
According to the LPPC, the suspension will remain in force until the final determination of the disciplinary proceedings currently before its Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee, as well as other related proceedings.
The committee explained that the action was necessary to safeguard the integrity, dignity, and prestige associated with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria while the matters under review are being considered.
As part of the suspension, Ozekhome has been directed to refrain from presenting or holding himself out as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria pending the resolution of the disciplinary process.
The LPPC reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professional ethics, integrity, and discipline within the legal profession. It added that preserving public confidence and respect for the SAN rank remains a priority.
Mike Ozekhome was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2010. He was among 19 distinguished legal practitioners admitted to the prestigious Inner Bar that year.
