The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has urged residents of Osun State not to panic over the increasing presence of military personnel and other security operatives across the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council acknowledged concerns among residents over the convoys of security personnel patrolling major streets as the election draws closer.
The TICC said the deployment was a proactive measure aimed at protecting lives and property, safeguarding the electoral process and ensuring that eligible voters could exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation.
The council said the presence of security personnel should “inspire confidence” rather than create fear, urging residents to go about their normal activities and come out in large numbers to vote on election day.
“We ask Osun people not to entertain any fear, but be more resolute to come out in their large numbers to vote on election day,” the statement said.
The campaign council also appealed to residents to conduct themselves lawfully and treat security personnel with courtesy at checkpoints.
It urged residents to provide actionable information on criminal hideouts and other activities that could threaten the peaceful conduct of the election.
Parents were also advised to caution their children and wards against actions capable of disrupting the electoral process, warning that such activities could attract security intervention.
At the same time, the TICC called on security agencies to maintain professionalism and impartiality throughout the electoral period, stressing that their primary responsibility was to protect citizens and ensure a peaceful election.
The council reaffirmed its support for all lawful measures aimed at ensuring that the Osun governorship election is free, credible, peaceful and reflective of the will of the people.
