Truck owners, maritime workers, freight operators and other stakeholders at the Onne Port, Rivers State, have threatened to suspend participation in the electronic truck call-up system from Monday, August 17.
They are protesting the deplorable condition of access roads to the Port, alleging lack of adequate truck holding bays and arbitrary charges under the system.
The Stakeholders said they can no longer tolerate the worsening condition of roads leading to the facility.
The damaged roads also cause severe traffic congestion, vehicle breakdowns and difficulties for people travelling between the communities and the port.
At a joint meeting involving truck owners, maritime workers, freight operators and other port users, the groups expressed concern over indiscriminate parking of trucks, traffic congestion and the impact of the poor roads on businesses and the host community.
The stakeholders say their action is intended to draw attention to the challenges facing port users and the host community, while calling for urgent measures to restore safe and efficient operations at the Onne Port.
