The Imole Campaign Council has raised concerns over reports that the residence of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has been surrounded by armed security personnel on Election Day.

According to the council, the security personnel reportedly arrived in more than 10 black Hilux vehicles and have allegedly sealed off the residence, preventing people inside from leaving the premises.

The council, however, said it could not independently confirm the purpose of the deployment or determine whether the personnel were providing security or carrying out official duties.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the campaign council called on the relevant security agencies to immediately clarify the deployment and the reported restriction of movement.

The council said it attempted to contact the Commissioner of Police for the election and the DIG Election through their publicly available contact lines but received no response. It added that efforts to reach the Police Situation Room were also unsuccessful as the publicly provided number was reportedly switched off.

The Imole Campaign Council urged security agencies to ensure that their operations on Election Day do not create an atmosphere of fear or intimidation.

It also called on residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding, stressing that the people of Osun State should be allowed to freely exercise their franchise and choose their next governor without intimidation or interference.

The council said it was awaiting an official explanation from the relevant security authorities.
