Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi has apologised to the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, over a controversial statement attributed to him during the just-concluded Osun State governorship election campaign.
Fadahunsi, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said his remarks during a visit to the monarch’s palace were motivated by his desire to seek justice over the killing of members of his political party.
The senator said his emotional appeal for justice had been misrepresented by critics as an attempt to incite violence.
He maintained that he never called for chaos, describing the criticism directed at him as unfair.
Fadahunsi, however, expressed gratitude to the Owa for what he described as “exceptional leadership” during the tense moment.
He said the monarch demonstrated royal wisdom by remaining neutral, refusing to be swayed by rumours and maintaining his role as a father to all, irrespective of political affiliation.
According to him, the monarch’s intervention helped prevent the situation from escalating.
“Because the peace of Osun State and Ijesaland in particular is far more important than any political dispute, victory, or defeat, I sincerely apologise for the tension that resulted from this misunderstanding,” Fadahunsi said.
The senator also acknowledged the defeat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the governorship election, saying the party respected the outcome of the democratic process.
He called on the victorious party to govern inclusively and urged political actors across the state to reduce inflammatory rhetoric.
Fadahunsi further appealed to APC supporters and other residents of the state to embrace peace and work towards reconciliation under the guidance of traditional institutions.
He nevertheless reiterated his demand for justice over the killing of his constituents, calling on the Osun State Government and security agencies to investigate the incidents through lawful and peaceful means.
“I will continue to demand legal justice for all my slain constituents regardless of their political affiliations,” he said.
