President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has held a closed-door meeting with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Mr Adeleke arrived at the State House at about 5:20pm on Thursday and proceeded to the President’s office for the meeting.
The meeting came five days after Mr Adeleke was re-elected governor in the 15 August Osun governorship election.
Earlier on Thursday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented Mr Adeleke with his Certificate of Return, formally confirming his victory. He later presented the certificate to President Tinubu during his visit to the Villa.
INEC declared Mr Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, the winner with 511,067 votes. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, came second with 444,815 votes.
The meeting is believed to be the first known encounter between President Tinubu and Mr Adeleke at the Presidential Villa since the Osun election.
The Presidency and the governor had not disclosed details of their discussions as of the time of filing this report.
The meeting comes amid continuing political reactions to the election. The APC governorship campaign committee rejected Mr Adeleke’s victory and said it would not immediately congratulate him.
LAGOS EYE NEWS reports that Mr Adeleke has also publicly reiterated his support for President Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid following his re-election.
