The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has alleged that purportedly selected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local government chairmen and councillors are planning to invade the 30 local government secretariats and an area office across the state.
In a statement signed by the Osun State APC Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the party claimed the alleged invasion was planned for Thursday, 3 September 2026.
The APC alleged that the PDP council executives had recruited political thugs from within and outside the state to carry out the planned action.
It also accused the purported council chairmen of working with officials of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to forcefully take control of the council secretariats.
According to the party, the development followed the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke, which it claimed had emboldened the PDP council chairmen to regroup.
The APC called on the Osun State Police Command, Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to take preventive measures to avert a possible breakdown of law and order.
It warned that any attempt to take over the council secretariats by force would amount to illegality, arguing that the dispute over the local government executives remains before the Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State.
The party further referred to a Supreme Court judgment in one of the cases involving the disputed council executives, claiming that the court had described the affected persons as “unknown to the law”.
The APC also recalled the killing of one of the reinstated APC local government chairmen, Remi Abass of Irewole Local Government Area, alleging that some PDP-linked suspects were currently standing trial over the incident at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
It urged the public and security agencies to remain vigilant, warning that any attempt to forcibly occupy the council secretariats could trigger a crisis in the state.
The party maintained that the appropriate course of action for any aggrieved party in the local government dispute was to seek redress through the courts rather than resort to force.
