A 20-year-old phone seller, Olusola Olumide, has narrated how he allegedly crushed a police sergeant to death during a stop-and-search operation in Lagos State.
The incident reportedly occurred along Olugbede Street in the Egbeda area of the state, where police officers had mounted a stop-and-search operation.
According to reports, officers signalled Olumide to stop, and he initially complied. However, he allegedly sped off as Sergeant Johnson Okediji approached the driver’s side of the vehicle.
The sergeant was reportedly knocked down and dragged underneath the vehicle for several metres despite repeated attempts by police officers and passers-by to get the driver to stop.
Olumide was eventually chased and arrested by the police.
The officer reportedly sustained multiple fractures and severe head injuries in the incident. He was rushed to a nearby hospital before being referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
However, Sergeant Okediji was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
