As Nigeria celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on Nigerians, particularly Lagos residents, to uphold the nation’s founding values of patriotism resilience and determination.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who is Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, urged citizens to respond to the nation’s challenges with renewed faith, responsible citizenship and collective action, stressing that Nigeria’s ability to overcome adversity remains a reason for optimism about the future.
The Governor also paid tribute to the founding fathers and patriots of Nigeria, as well as past and present leaders who have worked to preserve the unity and indivisibility of the country since independence in 1960.
He urged Nigerians to demonstrate patriotism not only during national celebrations but through their everyday actions by promoting social cohesion, respecting the rights of others and contributing meaningfully to national development.
In his words:
“Our diversity should be a source of strength and not division.”
He further called on Nigerians to recommit themselves to doing what is right, working together for a better country and walking in unity as one family.
