Nigerians travelling to Tanzania will no longer require special immigration clearance before applying for entry visas, following a change in the country’s visa procedures.
The new policy took effect immediately after amendments were published in Tanzania’s Government Gazette No. 246 of 2026.
Previously, Nigerian passport holders were required to undergo an additional referral or approval process before their visa applications could be processed. Applicants were also advised to submit their applications at least two months ahead of their intended travel dates.
Under the revised arrangement, Nigerians will now use Tanzania’s standard visa application process, either through the country’s official online immigration portal or designated entry points.
The standard online visa process generally takes about 10 days to process applications.
However, the new policy does not grant Nigerian passport holders visa-free access to Tanzania.
Nigerian travellers are still required to obtain a visa before entering Tanzania, but the additional special immigration referral clearance has been removed.
The development is expected to simplify the visa application process for Nigerians travelling to Tanzania for tourism, business and other legitimate purposes.
