The funeral of prominent Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, will be held in Harare on Thursday, their family has announced.
The couple died alongside three other people in a helicopter crash in Marondera, about 70 kilometres east of Harare, on September 30.
According to the family, Chivayo and Muteke will be buried side by side. Their incomplete remains were recovered from the crash site after the helicopter went down in misty conditions and caught fire.
The two pilots who died in the crash were scheduled to be buried on Monday, while the fifth victim was identified as Muteke’s security aide.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
Chivayo was a prominent and controversial figure in Zimbabwe, known for his close relationships with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and other African leaders.
Much of his publicly documented wealth was linked to large government and public-sector projects. He had faced allegations of corruption, while his lavish lifestyle frequently attracted attention on social media.
Despite the controversies surrounding him, Chivayo was also widely known for his philanthropic activities.
