Fairford
Counter Terrorism Policing officers have arrested a seventh person in connection with a security incident near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire on September 27.
The latest suspect, a 22-year-old British national, was arrested in Westminster on Tuesday on suspicion of preparing to commit terrorist acts under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
Six other men, all in their 20s, remain on police bail. Five were arrested on September 27, while another was arrested on October 1.
The investigation began after police stopped three suspicious vans near the Royal Air Force base in Gloucestershire on September 27.
Senior National Coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing, Vicki Evans, said the investigation remained active, with specialist teams pursuing several lines of inquiry.
“We are acutely aware of the public interest in this investigation, and we are working around the clock, and at pace, to identify the motivation behind events in Gloucestershire,” Evans said.
She added that police remained committed to examining all possible explanations and thanked the public for their continued patience and cooperation.
RAF Fairford was placed under heightened security following the incident. The base had been used by US bombers, some of which were subsequently moved from the facility over the weekend.
The reason for the movement of the American aircraft remains unclear.
A US military official said the relocation of military assets was not necessarily unusual, noting that aircraft and personnel could be moved around the world as part of exercises, redeployments and routine rotations.
Police have urged the public to remain patient as the complex investigation continues.
