Chimaobim Adedayo Igbojekwe, a Nigerian national, has been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following his arrest by police in Pennsylvania for allegedly exposing his genitals in a residential area near a public park.
Igbojekwe was arrested on September 27 in East Pennsboro Township after police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle.
According to reports, officers found him sitting inside the vehicle on a public residential street with his pants off and his genitals exposed.
He was subsequently charged with indecent exposure and disorderly conduct.
Igbojekwe later pleaded guilty to one count of disorderly conduct, while the indecent exposure charge and another disorderly conduct charge were withdrawn.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Igbojekwe was identified in local reports as a canvasser for Janelle Stelson, the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District, at the time of the incident.
However, Stelson’s campaign strongly denied the claim, stating that Igbojekwe had never been employed by the campaign and that it had never heard of him before his arrest.
Following his conviction, ICE arrested Igbojekwe on October 1.
DHS said Igbojekwe was legally admitted to the United States in June 2017 but remained in the country after his authorised stay expired in November 2019.
According to the department, he was later granted deferred action by the Biden administration in September 2021.
