Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos, has partnered with veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola to establish a Centre for Filmmaking and Production to equip students with practical skills and industry experience.
The Rector, Dr. Engr. Ibtaheem Adedotun Abdul, disclosed the partnership in a post on Monday, describing it as a strategic initiative to bridge the gap between academic learning and the practical demands of the film and theatre industry.
According to Abdul, the proposed centre will provide students with hands-on training, industry expertise and opportunities to participate in real production projects, helping them develop their creative talents and build sustainable careers.
He said the initiative aligns with the institution’s commitment to producing graduates who are employable, innovative and entrepreneurial, with the skills required to thrive in the creative sector.
LAGOS EYE NEWS reports that Akintola is championing the initiative through Threatremeter Nigeria Limited, whose chief executive represented the company at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The rector expressed appreciation to Akintola for the collaboration, saying it would create opportunities for students to develop their abilities, build industry connections and advance their professional careers.
“The future of our students is our priority, and we are building it together,” Abdul stated.
Akintola, a theatre practitioner whose acting career spans several decades, studied Theatre Arts at the University of Ibadan. She is known for her roles in productions such as Out of Bounds, Owo Blow and 93 Days.
