President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling the promises and manifesto of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing himself as the party’s “errand man” as the ruling party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general election.

Tinubu made the declaration during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, where he charged members to take his administration’s policies, achievements and reform agenda to Nigerians across the country to secure support for his re-election.

The President described the inauguration as a renewal of the party’s commitment to Nigerians, saying the APC must justify the confidence and responsibility entrusted to it as the country’s governing party.

“Let the word go out from this hall to every corner of our nation. The APC is ready. We have not gathered merely to inaugurate a council. We have gathered to renew a covenant with the Nigerian people and the historic responsibility they have entrusted to us as Nigeria’s governing party. We promise we will not let them down,” Tinubu said.

He charged the council to communicate the party’s vision, record and policy direction to voters nationwide, expressing confidence that its activities would strengthen the APC’s chances at the polls.

“This council will carry our vision, our record and our agenda to every Nigerian. And it will carry them to victory in every ward of this country. We arrive at this moment strong, united and renewed,” he added.

Reaffirming his commitment to the party’s manifesto, Tinubu declared: “To me, I am your errand man. I raise my hand with full commitment that we abide by my promises and the manifesto, the objectives and the intentions of our party. That’s all I give you.”

The President also acknowledged party leaders and members for their participation in the party’s internal processes, including the selection of leaders at ward, local government, state and national levels.

He urged members of the campaign council to approach their assignment with seriousness and ensure that the APC’s message reaches Nigerians at the grassroots as the party prepares for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking at the inauguration, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, called on Nigerians to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, describing the President as the most credible among the anticipated candidates.

“We ask Nigerians to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 because we believe that he is the most credible among all the candidates presented,” Yilwatda said.

His appeal underscored the party’s determination to consolidate its political support and present Tinubu’s administration as the preferred option for the next electoral cycle.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, urged members of the Presidential Campaign Council to go beyond rallies, posters and political gatherings by explaining to Nigerians why the APC believes continuity under Tinubu would serve the country better than a change of government.

Abbas said the council had a responsibility to present a clear political argument supported by the administration’s policies, achievements and reform agenda.

“This council has not been assembled merely to organise rallies, print posters or fill public squares. We must explain, with courage and clarity, why continuity under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu serves Nigeria better than reversal,” he said.

Describing the 2027 election as a contest between competing approaches to governance, the Speaker argued that Nigerians would have to choose between sustaining ongoing reforms and abandoning them.

“This election presents a clear choice. Between consolidation and confusion. Between steady progress and dangerous retreat. Between completing a difficult national repair and abandoning it halfway,” Abbas stated.

He acknowledged that governments undertaking major reforms often face immediate difficulties, while the expected benefits may take longer to materialise.

“The hardest form of government is the government of repair. It must expose old weaknesses before it can correct them. It must remove what is unsustainable before it can build what will endure. Its costs appear quickly, while its full benefits take time to mature,” he said.

Abbas also criticised opposition parties, accusing them of focusing on public dissatisfaction with the administration’s reforms without presenting sufficiently convincing alternatives.

“The opposition will try to reduce this election to anger. We must elevate it to an argument,” he said.

He questioned what alternative policy programme opposition parties were offering beyond seeking Tinubu’s removal, arguing that political realignments alone did not amount to a comprehensive plan for governing the country.

The Speaker further pledged the continued cooperation of the House of Representatives with the administration in pursuing national security, economic productivity and shared prosperity.

He said lawmakers would take the government’s record to their constituencies and mobilise support through direct engagement with voters.

“We will campaign constituency by constituency, ward by ward, street by street, door to door,” Abbas said.

In his own word, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, pledged that Rivers State and the FCT would deliver massive votes for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Wike challenged political leaders to take responsibility for their electoral performance, arguing that the President’s national victory should not be celebrated without substantial support from individual states.

“Let me say and pledge, by the grace of God, Rivers and FCT will vote massively for Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

He warned party leaders against claiming victory without demonstrating strong electoral backing in their respective areas.

“If you don’t deliver your state and the president wins, don’t say we have won,” Wike stated.

The minister also highlighted Lagos State’s strategic importance to the APC’s electoral calculations, recalling that he had stressed to the President’s Chief of Staff the need for the party to secure victory in the state.

His remarks placed the spotlight on grassroots mobilisation, state-level electoral performance and the responsibility of political leaders to translate their public declarations of support into votes.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke also expressed confidence in Tinubu’s re-election prospects, declaring his readiness to lead the political movement seeking the President’s return to Aso Rock in 2027.

Adeleke made the declaration during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, where he joined Tinubu and First Lady Remi Tinubu in a dance, drawing attention to his well-known dancing style.

Speaking at the event, the governor expressed optimism about the President’s electoral prospects and predicted that the movement would gather momentum ahead of the next general election.

“I can feel the victory coming in 2027. Nobody can stop this movement. I’m ready to lead this movement. We’re going to sing, we’re going to dance all the way back to Aso Rock,” Adeleke said.

His declaration added to the show of political support for Tinubu at the inauguration, where party leaders and political figures outlined their commitment to mobilising voters for the ruling party.

The inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council signals an intensification of the APC’s preparations for the 2027 general election, with the party’s leadership seeking to consolidate its support base and defend the Tinubu administration’s reform agenda.

Tinubu’s pledge to honour the party’s manifesto, Yilwatda’s appeal for re-election support, Abbas’s call for issue-based political engagement, Wike’s electoral mobilisation commitment and Adeleke’s declaration of confidence collectively reflect the ruling party’s efforts to build momentum ahead of the polls.

As the election approaches, the APC faces the task of persuading voters that the administration’s policies and reforms justify another term, while opposition parties are expected to present competing programmes and challenge the government’s record.

The effectiveness of the campaign council will ultimately depend on its ability to translate political endorsements and mobilisation promises into broader public support and votes at the ballot box.
