Lagos State Governor, Babajide SanwoOlu has debunked reports claiming that schools across the state will close in November and resume in March, describing the information as false and misleading.
In a statement on Wednesday by Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education stated that the purported announcement did not emanate from the Lagos State Government, adding that no official directive had been issued to alter the approved academic calendar.
It reassured parents, guardians, teachers, school administrators, students and other education stakeholders that the existing school calendar remains in force.
According to the Ministry, schools are expected to proceed with the first-term vacation on Monday, December 21, 2026, while the second term will commence on Monday, January 11, 2027.
It urged all public and private schools across Lagos State to adhere strictly to the approved academic calendar unless an official announcement indicates otherwise.
The Ministry also appealed to members of the public to disregard the circulating report and avoid sharing unverified information that could cause confusion, panic or disruption to academic activities.
It further clarified that any changes to school closure dates, resumption schedules or the academic calendar would be communicated through the official channels of the Lagos State Government and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
The Ministry advised parents and other education stakeholders to verify education-related information through these channels and treat reports from unofficial sources with caution.
It reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to maintaining a stable and orderly academic calendar to support the continued delivery of quality education across the state.
