Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has appointed the Olowo of Owo, Oba (Dr.) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye II, as the new Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Traditional Rulers.
The announcement was made on Thursday during a special meeting of the Council at the Obas’ Secretariat in Akure, marking the transition of leadership from the Deji of Akure, Oba (Dr.) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi Odundun II, whose tenure had ended.
Commending the outgoing chairman, Governor Aiyedatiwa praised Oba Aladetoyinbo for his leadership, dedication, and contributions to the state’s development. “Kabiyesi, you have demonstrated capacity, love, and ingenuity in handling matters affecting the development of the state. I thank you for your selfless service and unwavering dedication,” he said.
Reflecting on his administration’s achievements under the outgoing council, the governor highlighted key developments, including the implementation of the Ondo State White Paper on the Hon. Justice C.E.T. Ajama Judicial Commission of Inquiry. This, he noted, led to the elevation of many traditional stools and the upgrading of minor chieftaincies.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also emphasized the decision to abolish the Grade ‘D’ Obas category, elevating all monarchs in that class to Grade ‘C’. Additionally, he cited the successful implementation of the 5% statutory allocation of local government funds for traditional rulers, reinforcing the government’s commitment to the traditional institution.
The governor further acknowledged the completion of the Ondo State Council of Obas’ Secretariat, a long-awaited project aimed at enhancing the administrative functions of the Council. “This facility stands as a symbol of our love and respect for this esteemed Council,” he added.
Dissolving the 11th Council, Governor Aiyedatiwa officially approved the formation of the 12th Council, with Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye II as its new chairman.
In his response, the Olowo of Owo expressed gratitude for the appointment, pledging to foster a productive relationship between the Council and the government. He also lauded the governor’s leadership and developmental strides.
Meanwhile, the outgoing chairman, Oba Aladetoyinbo, appreciated the governor’s support for the traditional institution, describing it as unprecedented. He urged continued backing for the new leadership.
The event was attended by top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Segun Omojuwa; and Special Adviser on Union Matters and Special Duties, Comrade Bola Taiwo.
