The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has announced 55 out of 57 chairmanship candidates ahead of the July 12 Local Government elections. The candidates emerged during the party’s primary elections held on Saturday in Ikeja.
The primaries featured both consensus arrangements and delegate voting, with a total of 1,539 delegates expected to participate across 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). However, primaries were suspended in Yaba LCDA and Mainland LCDA due to ongoing litigations, which also led to the absence of delegates from those areas.
Chairman of the party’s Electoral Committee, Mr. Babatunde Ogala, who announced the results, said four chairmanship candidates emerged via consensus and were subsequently affirmed by delegates. These include Mr. Isa Jubril (Iba LCDA), Mrs. Motunrayo Gbadebo (Ijede LCDA), Mr. Rasaq Kasali (Lekki LCDA), and Mr. Azeez Kareem (Otto Awori LCDA).
Delegates, 27 per council, voted in the remaining areas, producing 51 other candidates including:
Mr. Usman Hamzat (Ifako-Ijaiye LG), Mr. Hameed Aroyehun (Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA), Oluyemisi Rosiji (Ojokoro LCDA), Moyosore Ogunlewe (Kosofe LG), Olufemi Okeowo (Ifelodun LCDA), Olamilekan Akindipe (Ajeromi-Ifelodun LG), Suleiman Yusuf (Surulere LG).
Other elected candidates include Azeez Ogidan (Coker Aguda LCDA), Tola Oyedele (Agboyi-Ketu LCDA), Taoreed Taiwo (Ejigbo LCDA), Muibi Alade (Lagos Island East), Sanusi Ismail (Amuwo-Odofin LG), Muibat Rufia (Ojo LG), and Taiwo Oyekan (Lagos Island LG), among others.
Additional winners are:
Wale Hameed (Ikorodu North LG), Samsudeen Agunbiade (Eti-Osa East LG), Humpey Babatunde (Badagry LG), Sura Animashaun (Epe LG), Adebayo Olasoju (Isolo LCDA), Sesan Olowa (Ibeju-Lekki LCDA)
Other names declared include Bolanle Bada (Ikosi-Isheri LCDA), Kehinde Oloyede (Oshodi-Isolo LG), Sunday Benson (Imota LCDA), Kazeem Sulaiman (Ikorodu West LCDA), and Daniel Olufemi (Itire-Ikate LCDA), among others.
Mr. Ogala acknowledged minor irregularities and human errors during the exercise and advised aggrieved aspirants to channel their grievances to the APC Appeal Committee for redress. He reiterated that the committee’s decisions could be overturned if credible evidence is presented.
He commended delegates for their patience and cooperation, describing the process as transparent and in the best interest of the party.
Councillorship primaries were also conducted across various wards in the state. However, some aspirants and agents have protested the outcome in certain LGAs, raising concerns over fairness and transparency.
