The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of five Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The confirmation followed the presentation of the report of the Senate Committee on INEC at the plenary. The report was presented by the committee chairman, Senator Simon Lalong (APC, Plateau).
Those confirmed include Umar Garba (Kano), Sa’ad Idris (Bauchi), Chukwemeka Ibeziako (Anambra), Umar Mukhtar (Borno), and Dr. Johnson Sinkiem (Bayelsa).
Presenting the report, Senator Lalong said the committee thoroughly reviewed the nominees’ resumes, work experiences, and career progression during the screening process.
He noted that all the nominees satisfactorily responded to questions posed by the committee and were found qualified for the appointments.
“After carefully scrutinising all the relevant documents and giving due consideration to their exposure, experiences, performance, qualifications, and integrity, the committee recommends that the Senate confirm the nominees,” Lalong stated.
