Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić has announced his departure from the club, marking the end of a legendary era at the Santiago Bernabéu. The Croatian icon confirmed that Saturday’s fixture will be his final appearance in front of the home fans.

Modrić, who joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 for €35 million, leaves behind an extraordinary legacy.

Over the course of nearly 600 appearances in the famous white shirt, he amassed 28 major trophies, including six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga crowns.

His stellar career reached its pinnacle in 2018, when he won the Ballon d’Or after leading Croatia to a historic FIFA World Cup final and delivering a standout season for Real Madrid.

In a heartfelt message shared with fans, the 38-year-old wrote: “The moment I never wanted to come, but that’s football… On Saturday, I will play my last match at the Santiago Bernabéu.”

“Playing at Real Madrid changed my life as a football player and as a person… I feel proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras of the best club in history,” he added.

Modrić expressed deep gratitude to club president Florentino Pérez, his teammates, coaches, and the fans. “I don’t know how to explain the special connection I have with you… I’m leaving with a full heart, filled with pride, gratitude, and unforgettable memories,” he said.

Although stepping away from the pitch, Modrić assured supporters that his bond with the club remains unbroken: “Even though I’m no longer going to wear this shirt on the field, I’ll always be a Madrid fan.”
