Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has been barred from performing the 2025 Hajj by Saudi Arabian authorities and subsequently deported to Nigeria.
The cleric confirmed the development in a Facebook post on Monday, May 26, 2025. He disclosed that although he was granted a visa to enter the Kingdom, he was denied entry into Medina where he was scheduled to begin his religious rites.
“Due to some reasons related to my views on world politics, the authorities in Saudi Arabia do not want me to be present at Hajj even though they have granted me a visa,” Sheikh Gumi wrote.
He also expressed appreciation to Nigerian authorities for their support, saying, “I am grateful to the authorities in Nigeria who have pledged to engage with the Saudi authorities on this matter.”
Findings indicate that Sheikh Gumi was part of a delegation of scholars sponsored by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to offer religious services during the pilgrimage.
The cleric reportedly arrived in Medina on Saturday night at about 10:30 p.m. aboard an Umza Air flight alongside other clerics. However, he was stopped at the airport by Saudi immigration officials and denied entry.
Sheikh Gumi has since returned to Nigeria and is expected to continue his regular teaching and religious activities.
