Philanthropist, sports icon, and Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Football Association (FCT FA), Alhaji Adam Mouktar Mohammed, has been conferred with the revered chieftaincy title “Abegyi Bwaya” by His Royal Highness Dr. Ibrahim Yaro (JP), the 17th Sa-Bwaya, Esu Bwari, and Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers, Bwari Area Council, FCT.
The colourful and culturally rich ceremony took place at the historic palace of the Royal Father in Bwari. In his address, His Royal Highness described Alhaji Mouktar as a “worthy son of the soil” whose efforts in youth and sports development have not only uplifted Bwari Chiefdom but have also brought it into the national and international limelight.
According to the monarch, the title “Abegyi Bwaya,” which translates to “Progress of Bwari,” is a reflection of Mouktar’s notable contributions to societal development, particularly in youth empowerment, job creation, and sports advancement across the FCT and Nigeria at large.
“This title is in recognition of his good service record and hard work in the development and progress of Bwari Chiefdom and the FCT,” said His Royal Highness Dr. Ibrahim Yaro.
In his acceptance speech, Mouktar expressed deep gratitude and humility:
“I feel very honoured to be conferred with this prestigious title. This is a huge motivation for me. I didn’t see this coming as I have always seen myself as a tool in the hands of Allah. I am passionate about societal and human development, especially in areas such as job creation, skills acquisition, and youth empowerment.”
He further thanked the Esu Bwari, the traditional council, and the people of the chiefdom for the honour, while acknowledging the unwavering support of his family, the FCT FA community, board members past and present, friends, and the wider sporting fraternity.
The turbaning ceremony attracted dignitaries from across the country, including sports administrators, business leaders, members of the media, and well-wishers from all walks of life.
It would be recalled that a formal letter of notification was earlier issued by the Bwari Traditional Council to Mouktar, informing him of his conferment as “Abegyi Bwaya” with effect from January 1, 2025. The letter highlighted his exceptional service and developmental contributions to Bwari and the wider FCT.
